Ely Roller Skating Club is celebrating the recent success of its application for an ‘Awards for All Grant’. The grant for £10,000 to be spent over the next twelve months will make a tremendous difference to the already hugely successful local club.

“It is fantastic news not just for the club but for the local community as a whole.” said Chairman Ian Allen.  “It means that we will be able to offer free taster sessions for all ages and subsidised skate sessions for anyone who is keen to continue. The cost of skating sessions can be prohibitive to many who would like to learn to skate. It is a great way to exercise and to make new friends.  Everyone is welcome to come and try”.

“In addition to subsidising new skaters the grant will make a difference to those already skating. Many of the skaters from both the Artistic and Hockey sections of the club compete on a national and even international basis. The last year has seen skaters competing in Portugal, France and Italy. We have been very fortunate over the past few years to have been given financial support by local societies and charities such as The Ely Lions, Round Table, Rotary Club and The Soham Pumpkin Fair which has enabled us to set up an International Skaters Fund which gives a token sum of money to those chosen to skate abroad with British Teams, which can be costly. The grant will enable us to give even more support to these skaters with workshops and specialist coaching; all in all 2009 looks to be a very exciting year for the club.”
